Google Ads Strategy for Local Service Businesses

Local service businesses have unique advantages in PPC that national companies can't match. You're targeting people in your immediate area - and they often need help right now. Plumbers, electricians, salons, and other local services can dominate their local search results and convert clicks into customers with these tips.

Prioritize Local Service Ads and Maps Placement

Local Service Ads appear at the very top of search results - even above regular Google Ads. These ads show your business name, star rating, phone number, and "Google Guaranteed" badge. They only charge when someone calls or messages you directly.

Set up Google Maps placement through location extensions and Google My Business optimization. When someone searches "plumber near me," you want to appear in both the ads section and the map results.

Use call-only campaigns for mobile traffic since most local service customers prefer calling over filling out forms. These ads show only your phone number and business description, making it easy for people to call immediately.

Target Precisely and Schedule Strategically

Geo-target down to specific cities, postcodes, or the radius around your service area - you don’t need to appear outside of that. You’ll waste money showing ads to people 50 miles away if you only serve a 15-mile radius - tighter geographic targeting makes you more relevant and saves you money.

Use dayparting to schedule ads during your peak hours and when you can actually answer the phone. Running ads at 2 AM for a non-emergency service wastes money if no one's available to take calls.
