Common Failures in Generative AI and How to Avoid Them
Let’s get into the bits no one puts on their AI sales page - like the stuff that can go really wrong if you’re not paying attention.
First up: there’s a thing called AI Hallucinations. No, not the trippy kind. In AI-speak, a “hallucination” is when the system just... makes stuff up. completely false information, whilst standing on business. It’s not lying, it doesn’t know what a lie is, instead it’s just predicting what sounds right based on patterns. Not facts.
So yeah, your chatbot might invent a return policy that doesn’t exist. Or an AI writer might throw in a fake statistic or quote a study that’s completely made up. And the most annoying bit? It sounds believable.
That’s why you always need to fact-check. Especially anything to do with prices, policies, numbers, or stuff that could land you in hot water.
Generic and Lifeless Content
Straight out of the box, AI writing often feels like it was written by someone trying to meet a word count. No personality, no spark — just... words. And usually the same phrases on repeat.
So, why does it sound so dull? Well, it's because AIs are trained on whatever they can get from the internet… a platform which is known to contain some pretty questionable stuff. So as a result, it churns out the same safe, 'predictable' stuff everyone else is saying.
